Frequently Asked Questions
Deraml Filler Injections

What is dermal filler?

Dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body. It is mainly produced via the fermentation of the bacteria ‘Streptococcus’.

Where can I have dermal filler?

Dermal filler is usually injected into the lower areas of the face to add where volume has been lost or enhance or contour an area of concern. Some of these areas may include cheeks, lips, jawline, and nose to mouth lines.

What does dermal filler do?

When hyaluronic acid is injected into the skin, it inflates and cushions the skin to support and define and create facial contour, whilst volumizing and restoring elasticity. It also restores and holds water to the surface of the skin to maintain more moisture.

How long before I see results from dermal filler?

You will see some results immediately after the treatment, however because hyaluronic acid holds water you will get some added volume over the following 2 weeks.

How long does dermal filler last for?

4 to 12 months but on average 9 months.

Will I feel lumps from dermal filler?

It does sting when it is being injected, but I will use a topical anaesthetic prior to treatment, and I also use filler that has lidocaine in it which is an injectable anaesthetic which does help a lot. There may be some residual pain after the numbing wears off, which you can take paracetamol.

Will I feel lumps from dermal filler?

Depending on the area and the type of filler used, you can sometimes feel it under the skin initially, but this usually wears off after a couple of weeks. You can also massage any lumps using your finger and thumb if needed.

Will I get any bruising?

This is possible, sometimes dermal filler can cause bruising around the injection site. You may also experience lumps and most likely there will be some swelling initially, this can sometimes take between 3-14 days to go down.
